IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL RESIDENTS FROM POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Alert, new scam!

A new scam similar to digital arrest has come to notice.

1. A person posing as a Court official arrived at the security gate of the apartment complex.

   2.  Told the security that there was an arrest warrant for a name and the flat number.

3. The security denied entry after talking to the flat occupant.

4. The guy now came back with fake police and told the security staff that if they deny entry, they are liable for action because they cannot stop government officials from entering the apartment complex.

5. The security now allowed entry. 

6. They called the number associated with the flat, threatening them that there was an arrest warrant for him.

7. The alert occupant refused to open the door. If the door had been opened, they would have threatened him similar to the digital arrest modus operandi and would have forced him to give money to avoid arrest. 

Beware of such scams because it can happen to you and you may get into trouble and surely lose a lot of your money.

Actions needed:

1. RWAs should instruct security staff not to allow any person posing as government official to get into the complex without a thorough identity check and inform the RWA office bearers about such people. In such cases, someone from the RWA must rush to accompany the team if it appears to be genuine.

2. If you're sure you are not involved in any crime, do not allow any kind of threatening calls you get from the gate to allow entry for people claiming to be from the court or police. In fact, call up the police yourself, they'd be glad to net such criminals.

3. Must install video doorbell to verify the visitors. Don't open the door for any stranger. Call up your neighbours or the RWA to come up to your flat. Don't let them in because once they are in, they will really make you believe that you are in deep trouble or could gang up for a crime. 

4. Carefully record photos, videos and conversations on phone/ video door bell for a later investigation.

5. Never pay up, come what may. If money is being demanded in lieu of avoiding trouble, it's a sure sign of a scam.

6. Make this scam be known to all your friends and family living in different apartment complexes. 

Stay alert and safe, these days scamsters are going beyond imagination.
