Two actual case studies which are very close to the heart and can be rare cases and yardstick cannot be applied everywhere. Use this info with discretion as we still believe that you should not be an ATM for your children and neither you should consider your children as your retirement plan. The below story is good part of the other side of the story.
CASE ONE
Way back in 1990s we had Shri Sunder Singh ( God bless his noble soul) living in one of the houses in our GALI ( what we call LANE now) in Model Town ( where I spent my youth and the best part of my life).
He had around 10 cows initially and ran his Milk dairy from the house itself. He had two sons and two daughters. He was himself totally illiterate( no Mgt degrees....). However , he managed his business amazingly well. Very jovial, hard working , God fearing and affable gentleman.
Over a pd of time he made his business grow. Shifted his dairy to the outskirts and his son opened the first ONE STOP SHOP in Model Town way back in 90s when this concept was still in the nascent stage.
So far so good.
He distributed all his property between his four children during his life time and they all lived happily in separate houses ( but heart was together).
Sunder Singh was respected by one and all till his last. Children are still united and Sunder Singh still stands as an example since the last two generations in our Galli.
CASE TWO
Shri Natha Singh living rt across the Rd from our house in the same Galli. He was reasonably educated and held a decent position in PSEB.
He had only two sons., no daughter.
He held on to his wealth/ property till the last. Had tremendous issues between him and the sons and their wards while he was alive.
Even after his death the two sons were at loggerheads. The WILL was contested and the family finally became a BLACK DEMO for the Galli.
Sunder Singh had little or no education behind him. However he carried his family together all through from humble beginnings and each member had unflinching faith in others and the same reflected in mutual sp offered by the two brothers to the sisters and their families.
Natha Singh was better read yet he could not bind the two sons together during his life time. The same came out in open after his death. The family could not have mutual trust during the lifetime. Trust deficit in the upbringing , maybe.
Lessons Learnt
Have faith in your near and dear ones. Give and share while you are still alive. Tomorrow , it might be too late
( Reminds me of that famous Cow and donkey story where the donkey cribs that I work so hard, yet people kick me, they rip me after I die , use my skin, (blab..blab..blab).... while they all worship you when you just give them milk. The Cow cooly replies.." That is probably so, because I give while I am still alive).

I was reading this book, Die with Zero, by Bill Perkins. I would recommend we should all go through this book. It opens up an entirely new prospective on how we save and how we live...
