Saurab Sharma, 30, lives in West Delhi. He planned a trip to Rishikesh in his luxurious auto-gear car with his friend.
He drove the 233 km onward journey without any problem.
While returning, half way through, he suddenly stopped the car and became unconscious.
His friend immediately moved him to a nearest hospital. When he was brought to the hospital his heart beats were too low. Doctors gave him CPR for 45 minutes and injected costly medicines and ultimately revived him.
The doctors, after confirming with Saurab's friend that he had no cardio problens, told that he had DVT ( Deep Vein Thrombosis).
While driving long distance his left foot was static. Clotting of blood happens in such a stage. There are numerous minute valves on our leg. These valves help push the blood upward to the heart. When there is clotting in the leg, it is carried to the heart and it becomes alarming stage of 'pulmonery embolism'.
This had happened to Saurab.
So, the doctors advise the drivers of auto-gear car to stop the car after driving for an hour or two. Get out of the car and walk up and down for some time to restore blood circulation on left leg to avoid clotting.
The same applies to those sitting at a stretch in office or home. They should get up every now and then and walk up and down in the room for 10 - 15 mintes.
Those who sit for long hours while travelling in a car, should ask the driver to stop at regular intervals; get down from the car and walk up and down for few minutes and continue travelling.
Those who are obese, those who have
undergone a surgery and those who had DVT earlier, should not sit continuously for a long time. They should get up and walk periodically.
Doctors say there are more cases of DVT now as more and more people have cut down walking and continue to sit for longer.
