An IPO lock-up is period is the period after an IPO during which time the shares cannot be sold by company insiders. Lock-up periods typically apply to insiders such as a company's founders, owners, managers, and employees but may also include early investors such as venture capitalists.

Anchor Investors is offered shares in an IPO a day before the offer opens. There is a lock-in period of 30 days on the shares allotted to the Anchor Investor so the anchor investor can't sell his/her shares for at least 30 days after the allotment. At present, the shares issued to anchor investors are locked in for a period of 30 days from the date of allotment. While the market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has proposed a longer lock-in period of 60 days, the present duration continues to be 30 days.
