Turkish photographer Mehmet Aslan has won "photo of the year" at the Siena International Photo Awards 2021 with this picture of a Syrian refugee boy and his father in Reyhanli, in the Turkish province of Hatay, at the border with Syria.
The father lost his leg in a bomb blast in a bazaar in Syria. His son was born without limbs due to a congenital disorder caused by the medications his mother had to take, after being sickened by the nerve gas released during the war in Syria. As someone said in response to this photo, "Smack me in the face if I ever complain about anything ever again".
