Once a government job is secured than for next 32 to 38 yrs there is the clamour for getting perks and privileges. Because these two are only variables existing in that ecosystem with pay increase being a constant.
How this mindset makes us stay away from our money goals and happiness we will try to address.
2. Say an organisation has 9 levels with level 1 being a fresh guy and level 9 of top boss. Now the selection for future happens at level 4. A big deal is made out of this as non-selection is considered as a great setback. Basically, the premise is missing out on perks and privileges of level 5 to 8. We will leave 9 as only 1 person goes till there. Most will still only make to level 5 or max 6.
3. If a careful analysis is done the difference in salary of people left out at 4 and these 5 n 6 is hardly any. Infact level 4 may draw more if getting hra and transport allowance.
4. The incentive to progress in corporate is pure money. They do not fool themselves with such things.
5. For that driver , cook, maali one is willing to focus so much of time
and collective energy of couple. You add on all in 20 to 25 k one can get
all of them. Yes sarkari ones cost 1.2 lakh plus to Exchequer but if you
actually hire them depending on place and individual talent 25 k is figure.
6. In sarkari set ups once you get used to these things then tadap of going
ahead increases a lot. Which is also ok thing .But at times it becomes
wanting to go ahead at any cost. That is when problem starts. And even
after retirement one is desperate for some jugaad to somehow have that
gaadi n bangla thing. This desperation is compromising general work culture
in maný setups. And its a pity that actually for what ? That 20 to 30 k
thing.
7. If one breaks down these all privileges to money terms they can not be
more than salary of one adhoc teacher. Or tuition collection of an
intelligent wife who can teach a subject or two.
8. The new generation has realised this and it is a welcome change. Just
marrying a working girl changes the whole equation. 2 people of 6 yrs
service will make more than a 26 yrs service person. A couple with 13 yrs
each will make much more than level 9. Now to expect this couple or
generation to get into race for those priveliges will be wrong. Wanting
to progress in career is a good thing but making perks (authorised or
otherwise) only driving force may not be correct. Some larger reason
should be there. Contributing to organisation may be.
9. Perks and privileges exist with a position so that incumbent can
discharge his official duties in an efficient manner. However these perks
should not become an end in themselves. Also it should be remembered that
none of them can be carried with you after retirement. There are couples
who have not bought sabzi from market themselves for 18 years. They just do
not know how to go about basic things after retirement.
10. I am not at all becoming moral science teacher to any one..I am all for
using ones authorised perks. But at same time some focus should be there on
increasing one's financial capacity along side so as to maintain this even
after retirement. Most do not do this. And till very late they do not
realise it since they are so busy running the race. And then panic sets in
at last moment closer to retirement. This sometimes becomes a reason for
indulging in unethical behaviour.
11. And for the ones left out at level 4. Please spend that 20 to 25k and you can be at par as lifestyle is
concerned. And amount of stress which increases in life with higher
position can actually not be compensated with these so called privileges.
You should feel lucky with 95 percent of their salary and may be 20 to 30
percent of work. So no reason to whine. Whether you deserved or nõt
deserved to be there with them should not stop you from enjoying life. And
fact is residual mindspace available with level 4 is quite high to do
anything they want and even make that career switch.

In this money you can stay in best of flats with best jaguar fittings n
good ambience. Still pay electricity from this only.
But most will still prefer to stay in 25 to 30 k and save 18 k.
And yet be jealous of that rajdhani track guy staying in sarkari
appointment house for going his hra. Only if you could see his seemingly
nice house more closely from inside. Recently delhi CM ke house ka roof of
one of the room fell. This mindset of not being able to spend money even
when authorised keeps us away from leading a good life.

13. Do not be enamoured by these perks and privileges.
They are trap which sucks energy and time and not only yours but memsaab 's
as well. These two if utilised especially by wife can give far better long
term sustainable dividends. (Sustainable is key word here)
14. So gaadi, bangla , badiya office, printer, computer , chatak staff ,
guest room etc ke peeche
unnecessary discussion should be avoided.
If one will do a proper audit of one's working life then this realisation
will come

utilise it better.
