The above quote is from the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi's online address to 30 world wide diplomats. This included Henry Kissinger (97-year-old) , former US Secretary of State, the architect of Sino-US friendship. He had secretly visited China in 1970 to establish contact with then Chinese strongman, Mao Zedong.
Kissinger's presence in the address shows that China wants to use his leverage to Checkmate President Donald Trump offensive against China. The entry of two US aircraft carriers, Nimitz and Ronald Reagan, into South China Sea (SCS), has rattled China. All it's loud-mouthed and intimidatory talks have come to naught.
But Henry Kissinger is a very shrewd politician cum diplomat. In the western world, no one understands China better than him. In his book he explains China's military thought by comparing Chinese ancient military thinker with western military thinkers. According to him what distinguishes Sun Tzu from Western writers on strategy is the emphasis on the psychological and political elements over the purely military.
Kissinger goes on to dissect Chinese military thought by comparing two games of Chess and "Wei Qi" , former from West and latter from China. If chess is about the decisive battle, wei qi is about the protracted campaign. The chess player aims for total victory. The wei qi player seeks relative advantage.
This pleading talk of Wang Yi is actually an attempt to bide time . In tactical terms, it is a retreat to avoid total. annihilation. From wang's reconciliatory statement two facts emerge. First , China understands only the language of force. Second, it has no shame in retreating when weak. It still follows Sun Tzu dictum : If he (enemy) is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. China strongly believes and practises Sun Tzu thought that all warfare is based on deception and the supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.
Show of force by USA in the South China Sea (SCS), had an immediate effect on China. US move has shown to China as to what it was up against. As a result, Sabre tattling China has now come down to its knees. Therefore as Sun Tzu had advised it was "time to retreat". It is now cajoling and pleading to USA on old ties and relationship. It seeks the good offices of Henry Kissinger to do the trick. But Kissinger though respected, but has no influence on decision making in today's USA.
The tone and tenor of the language of this address proves that China was not yet military equal of USA. It can bully and intimidate its small and unequal neighbours but it can not flex muscles before USA. Wang Yi goes on to say that China has been continuing to try its best to convince the US to stop dangerous approaches to deal with the ties, and to be sincere at dialogues to solve problems. It is nothing but a deception plan.
China knows that can not take on India and USA Concurrently. No wonder it has agreed to trying to de- escalate and disengage on the Ladakh border. It is not a good Will gesture but to release military efforts for SCS conflict , should the balloon go up in SCS or Taiwan Strait. It is a tactical compromise with India to be able to face USA.
It was laughable when wang Yi told the forum that Unilateralism and bullying were forcing their way in the world. An international disorder is more possible than ever. It was a case of kettle calling the pot black. Henry Kissinger must be in splits mentally. It was China who was intimidating all her neighbours till USA appeared on the scene.
Wang Yi then goes on to suggest three ways to improve US - China relations in order to maintain peace and harmony in the world . First stage is to stop remodelling each other's political system.. He asserts that this was the only way for peaceful coexistence. Look who was talking of peaceful co- existence? Out of 14 countries with which it shares borders it has border dispute with all . And seven more countries on the rim of East China Sea and SCS have territorial dispute. Is this peaceful coexistence ?
Second stage is his bait thrown to Americans of goodwill and sincerity He emphasised that China never intends to challenge or replace the US, or have a full confrontation with the US. What we care most about is to improve the livelihood of our people. This is another bluff. China has been spying in USA laboratories and stealing technology by this gesture. Most in USA strongly believe that Covid-19 was deliberately produced in a Wuhan laboratory. He further articulated his falsehood to say that China stands ready to develop a China-US relationship featuring no conflict and confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation based on coordination, cooperation and stability. In simple terms what he was asking the USA to rule the world conjointly with China. But how can there be two swords in one sheath?
Third stage he reminds ISA to have a correct view of the historical experience of China-US relations, and stay the course of dialogue and cooperation. Was he appealing to Henry Kissinger , the architect of the building of Sino - US relationship? He cites Second World War cooperation against Japan . He forgets that it was not communist regime but Chiang Kai Shek , who was US ally, then. Chiang Kai Shek's set up now controls Taiwan. Which USA is bound to protect .
The long and short of this address by Wang Yi is that China feels threatened by US actions. All it's loud mouthed talk of annexing Taiwan by force has been blown to pieces . It is also a lesson for India that China understands only the language of force. All other gestures of peace and harmony are part of its deception plan. Economic growth and military strength had made China arrogant . The balloon of arrogance has been busted by US actions . It is time world realises the monstrous designs of China and not fall for such sweet talks . Look at what is it doing to Pakistan and Nepal.,It is time to checkmate it's further growth and development otherwise it will swallow all its smaller neighbours like it did to Tibet , Xinjiang and Outer Mongolia.
