However, the global rage against China was so shrill that most of the nations refused to relent and the aggressive and offensive diplomacy failed to make any significant impact. On the contrary, some voices back home started calling for restraint. There is the second phase of Wolf Warrior Diplomacy, beyond combative statements and that is aggressive assertive action. China did this saber-rattling in South China Sea in the last couple of months by taking a variety of belligerent actions. Was this bellicose in the South China Sea a warning to India which she failed to read? China was not happy with India on the following accounts:-
- India's change in FDI laws which China perceived as against their Economic Interests.
- India joining the comity of nations backing the WHO resolution.
- Likely shift of global companies from China to India.
- Chairmanship of the executive board of World Health Assembly to India
As a consequence, China let loose its Wolf Warrior Diplomacy against India. Tough press statements, invasive articles, and antagonistic remonstrance of prejudiced trade practices. Thereafter it launched phase 2 by taking the scene to the LAC and blatantly did intrusions at three points. It was trying to coerce India. Mind you India is not same 1962 vintage poor nation and also she was armed with freshly learned lessons from Doklam. Interestingly, two out of three points chosen for a near-simultaneous the intrusion was in the areas which were traditionally absolutely undisputed areas. It also provoked Nepal by coercing it to raise an unnecessary and baseless border the dispute in Kalapani-Lipulekh Sector. The motive, and it is ulterior, is to get out of the COVID 19 global trap in which China finds itself caught up badly. It will use the situation to leverage against the inquiry!!!
India has done a lot of infrastructure development in Eastern Ladakh due to which Chinese vulnerabilities of Aksai Chin and Karakoram both have become easily accessible to Indian forces. China is trying to portray India as the aggressor, and threatening India of dire consequences. China belongs to a school of thought, based on a famous Sun Tzu quote, which conceptualizes
Winning without Fighting: Coercion remains the main weapon of Chinese to resolve the disputes. China is resorting to excessive verbal aggression, propaganda, hate campaign, overstated military preparedness, psychological warfare, are few of the many tricks applied by it.
India has responded to this belligerence in mature, calculated politically and militarily correct manner. Dragon is running a huge fiscal deficit and is keeping its currency at an artificial level by manipulation. It's human rights record is one of the worst in the world of not the Worst. It's international reputation and image is at the lowest ebb, It probably has issues with its military equipment profile especially the airpower they stand at a lower level than the mighty US. They have huge issues back home such as, South China Sea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, The Virus itself, trade sanctions and the like, Domestic power politics and diverting people's attention from those issues has been the main reason for Rogue Dragon to do what they are attempting on the LAC.
We think they are at an abysmal low, they are also well aware that they have made a mistake by daring India this time around and cannot afford to escalate the situation at the LAC nor can the afford to escalate situations in the South China Sea and Indo Pacific into a World War. The Cold War will go on, the philosophy of Winning without Fighting will continue. India and Indian Leadership is certainly NOT what it used to be in 1962.
