The Government of India has, through an executive order dated 10th October, 2003, mandated PFRDA to act as a regulator of the pension sector in India. The PFRDA has been assigned the responsibility of designing the structure of funds and constituents in the
National Pension System (NPS).
It is responsible for registering the various constituents such as the fund managers, custodians, Central record keeping agency and trustee banks and to define the parameters of their roles and responsibilities.
