HDFC bank has sent an advisory to its clients related to international transactions for the debit card. The advisory regarding international use of your Debit Card is as stated below:
As you are aware, your Debit Card can be used to withdraw money from ATMs, shop at retail stores and also to shop online. These transactions can be done in India and abroad. Keeping in mind the risk associated with international transactions, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has directed all banks to apply a separate daily limit for international use of Debit Cards. To comply with these guidelines and to enhance the security of Debit Cards, we have set daily limits on international usage of your card. Accordingly, from 1st December 2013, the daily international usage limit on Debit Cards is being set at Rs. 50,000 per day for all HDFC Bank customers. This will be the total daily limit for use at international ATMs and stores, and for online purchases through international websites. Please note that there is absolutely no change to the daily limits applicable to ATMs and retail stores within India or Indian websites.
