First and foremost the online fraud tricksters target those audience who are not abreast with internet and easily fall prey to fear and greed element.
Have a look at the email which we received
Your Paypal Account is Under Restriction, To resolve, Click on Reset Gateway. Failure to reset your Paypal gateway will lead to account suspension.
Analysis of Email
It was a 2 liner email which instilled the fear element and as we knew that it is a prank to get your userid and password we clicked the given link of Reset Gateway. We have removed that link as we do not want anyone to fall prey to such tactics.
On clicking the Reset Gateway we were taken to lookalike Paypal page but one major difference was in that page. Have a look at below screenshot where you will find that it is not a HTTPS page. All sites involved with banking like Paypal or ICICI bank or Axis bank or any bank in India will have HTTPS pages enabled (concentrate on extra ‘S’).
Have a look at below screenshot and see the website URL which shows the fake URL and does not have HTTPS in its url and url is also a different url. The below is a fake Paypal screenspage created by the user to entice the receiver to share his password.
So be careful while clicking any links which ask for your password or userid as banks or Paypal etc never ask a client to share their user id and password.
As a responsible citizen we have forwarded the received email to Paypal so that their risk team can investigate the issue.
