It is a commendable decision that govt is going to allow number portability to any circle and this time the time line is Feb 2013. This will definitely help the govt to achieve its aim of removing the roaming charges in whole India as we are of the opinion that if we have to excel as a nation than a person should be allowed to use his phone number anywhere in India without worrying for roaming charges.
Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal has stated that nationwide Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is expected to be rolled out by February next year , which will allow users to retain their numbers even if they move from one state to another. Currently, a user is allowed to switch to a different operator within his/her circle, while retaining his/her phone number. Under NTP 2012, the government had envisaged implementing MNP on a nationwide level allowing users to retain their mobile numbers even when they shift to a different telecom circle. India has 22 telecom circles.
We whole heartedly welcome the decision as India is a lot behind other nations in the world where number portability was allowed long ago and now we are catching up with them. Better late than never.
