It is applaudable that New York has become the first city in the US to ban the sale of large sodas and sugary beverages in restaurants. The aim is to control obesity which is increasing courtesy sugary drinks. More than 6000 Newyorkers are dying sue to obesity every year.
The new regulation is going to be effective wef March 2013 and establishments will have to ensure that sugary beverages with more than 25 calories per eight ounces can only be sold in portions of 16 ounces or less.
This is a remarkable decision to control obesity and we may see more cities and countries following suit. One will need to see share price of Pepsico and Cocacola during Mar 2013 to access likely impact of the decision.
