Roaming charges with in the same country is a slur on the name of One India, One Nation campaign as it is a pain to keep changing the phone number on shifting to a different location or a state.
However now is a reason to cheer as Union Cabinet has cleared the proposed National Telecom Policy that advocates abolition of roaming charges and it allows users to retain the same number across the country.
A hurdle was seen last week when Cabinet had deferred the proposal pending clarifications on certain aspects from the Department of Telecom. The main hurdle is from telecom companies like Vodafone, MTS, Airtel, BSNL, Reliance etc who are raking good money by virtue of large subscriber base moving in roaming outside their circles,
We hope to see this becoming a reality as it can give a fillip to business growth in India. Thank God now govt has woken up on the issue as countries like Pakistan also do not have roaming charges.
