Property buyers and sellers can cheer as Indian government has rolled back the proposed one percent tax deduction at source (TDS) on transfer of immovable property. It is a good move as putting the onus on property buyer to deduct 1% TDS from seller was oing to be a cumbersome task on implementation front as this amount was likely to be passed on the buyer by the builders.
The original proposal made by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee was that every transferee of immovable property (other than agricultural land), at the time of making payment for transfer of the property, shall deduct tax at the rate of 1 percent of such sum.
Thank God good sense has prevailed on Pranab Da and we definitely see a budding future President in him unless Congress resists his leaving the party as he can be a consensus President candidate.
