The Pakistan cabinet today approved a proposal to shift to a negative list based trading with India, giving a major boost to bilateral ties between both the countries, reports CNBC-TV18.
The decision further goes on to say that Pakistan will eliminate the negative list by the end of 2012. That will mean that from January 1, 2013, trade relations between both the countries will not be restricted by any list.
As of now, Pakistan allows India to export only 2000 items. Commerce ministry sources told have said that once the negative list is done away with, Pakistan will be eligible for duty concessions under the South Asia free trade area agreement (SAFTA) and the peak duty that will be levied by India on Pakistani products will be just 5%
