A press release of Paypal including email sent to its users states that during the holiday season in 2011, they have seen a 19% increase in holiday shopping online compared to 2010 and an emerging trend of customers actively shopping on mobile devices.

It further adds that smart phones and other mobile devices are no longer merely an access point for online shopping. PayPal saw a 5 fold growth in global mobile commerce in 2011 compared to 2010. Mobile-Commerce has become an integrated part of our consumers' shopping lifestyle and it is increasingly important for businesses to meet this emerging need from their customers.
