Mukand has interests in steel, machine building, turnkey projects and infrastructure. The company was incorporated on Nov. 19, 1937. The company manufactures alloy, special and stainless steel long products, which find use in the manufacture of kitchenware, stainless steel for industrial applications, ..etc. Machine building products include electric overhead traveling (EOT) and other cranes; equipment for bulk material handling, process plants, steel plants, rolling mills, casting, non-ferrous industry; power plant equipment like turbines and casting; cement plant handling equipment; port cranes and bulk material handling equipment; defence and space research equipment. The company has its manufacturing plants in Kalwe and Hospet. The steel capacity will increase to 0.5 million TPA from the current 0.31 million TPA by March 2009. The company formed a joint venture company with NV Bekaert SA, Belgium to produce stainless steel wires in India for global markets. The 50:50 JV will be set up in Lonand, district Satara, Maharashtra. Turnkey projects include the 40-meter high mobile service structure for assembly of augmented satellite launching vehicle (ASLV) for Indian Space Research Organization; a medium merchant structural mill with an annual capacity of 850,000 tons for Visakhapatanam Steel Plant; etc. Highway projects include the construction of a 77-Km four-lane highway for the Ashapur-Khaga stretch of NH-2.and construction of a 72 Km four-lane highway in the Handia-Rajatalao stretch of NH-2, part of the golden triangle. Steel customers include Motor Industries Co., Sundram Fasteners, Steel Authority of India, National Power Corporation, Birla Copper, National Highways Authority of India, and many others. The company plans to increase its exports business from Rs 1.5 billion to Rs 2.5 billion in 2007.
