Trent (TRENT), part of the Tata group, has a chain or retail stores in India. It was incorporated on Dec. 5, 1952. The company operates the Westside stores which offer men`s wear, women`s wear, kids` wear, footwear, perfumes, cosmetics, handbags, household accessories, lingerie, and gifts. The company has 27 Westside departmental stores in metros and first class cities of India including Mumbai and Delhi. The hypermarket business under Star Bazaar with a 50,000 sq. ft. store in Ahmedabad offers staple foods, beverages, health and beauty products, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, consumer electronics, garments, and household items at affordable prices.
Trent acquired a 76% stake in Landmark, one of the largest books and music retail chains in the country. With its 10 stores, Landmark offers a range of books, stationery, greeting cards, music, curios, toys and other gift items. The other subsidiaries of the company include Trent Brands, Flora Services, (sourcing activities, warehousing clearing and forwarding), Satnam Developers and Finance (real estate constructor and developer), Nahar Theatres and Fiora Link Road Properties. Under an agreement with the company, the Xander group, a global private equity firm, through one or more of its fund vehicles will invest in the development of an institutional retail real estate portfolio in India in partnership with high quality Indian developers. This would accelerate the company`s growth plans in the retail sector. The company has a strategic partnership with the Benetton group to open and manage a number of Sisley brand stores in India with the first shop expected to come up by the end of 2007.
