Prakash Industries (PRKSH) is a diversified business house with interests in steel, power, mining of coal and iron ore, woolen yarn and picture tubes. It was incorporated in 1980. The ISO 9001:2000 certified company, with its iron ore mining and crushing division in the Sundargarh district of Orissa has been allotted the Nergaon and Metabodali mines in Chhattisgarh, Sirkagutu mines in Orissa, and the recently licensed Kawardha iron ore mines to be operational by April 2009. Coal blocks include Chotia and Madanpur coal blocks in the Hasdeo-Arand coal fields in Chhattisgarh and in November 2007, was allotted the Fatehpur coal block in Chhattisgarh with estimated coal reserves in excess of 45 million metric tons for captive use. The high grade coal extracted is used for sponge iron manufacturing as well as power generation. The company has established an integrated steel plant at Champa in Chhattisgarh. It produces 400,000 MTPA sponge iron from 2 rotary kilns and after ongoing expansion, the total capacity would increase to 800,000 MTPA. The steel plant with an installed capacity of 1.2 MTPA is to have a 560-MW captive power plant and a coal washery of 3 MTPA. In February 2008, the company entered into a MOU with the Chhattisgarh government to establish and operate a 600 MW thermal power station and earlier, with the Madhya Pradesh government to establish and operate a 1000 MW thermal power station. Steel structurals like channels, beams and angles are manufactured in the hot rolling mill of the 150,000 TPA capacity Raipur plant. A 180,000 TPA capacity modern wire rod mill has been set up for manufacturing MS wire rods with a wire drawing facility of 60,000 TPA HB wire. The rigid PVC pipes manufacturing facilities in Uttaranchal and Punjab have a total production capacity of 15,000 MTPA. The company has 6 MW wind power farms in Tamilnadu, a 100% export-oriented worsted woolen yarn unit of 1,835 MTPA capacity in the union territory of Silvassa, and a 300,000 installed capacity picture tube manufacturing unit in the Madhya Pradesh. It is a leading exporter of iron ore fines from India with its own full-fledged export operations from Haldia Port in West Bengal.
