Kaveri Seed Company (KSCL) was incorporated as GVB & Company in 1976. It became Kaveri Seed, a private company, in 1986 and converted into a public company on November 7, 2006. It is an agri-input company and the founder and managing director of the company is G.V. Bharkar Rao. KSCL is mainly into the business of production, processing and marketing of high quality hybrid seeds for different crops like corn, sunflower, cotton, paddy, grain sorghum, ..etc., and has recently forayed into micronutrients and bioproducts. It also produces non-hybrid seeds primarily for paddy. Products include seeds of corn, sunflower, bajra and cotton, which represented 42.95%, 28.91%, 8.92% and 8.5% of its turnover respectively as on March 31, 2006. Kaveri Seed Company also produces seeds of jowar, grain sorghum, rice, pearl millet and vegetables. It has plans to increase the current seed processing capacity of 18,000 tons to 30,000 tons a year. KSCL currently has production, processing and R&D facilities in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka with 400 acres of land for R&D and QA and a multi season breeding and testing facility. All the hybrids developed by the R&D team are marketed under the brand name of Kaveri Seeds. The in-house R&D facilities located at Ranga Reddy district are recognized by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. On September 20, 2006, KSCL acquired the business, assets and liabilities of Kaveri Agriteck. The company has an extensive marketing network with distributors and dealers in Karnataka, Tamilnadu, Maharastra and Andhra Pradesh. Kaveri Seed Company has recently entered other states such as Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajastan.
