Crompton Greaves (CROGREAV), part of the Thapar Group, was incorporated in 1937. It is one of the largest players in India in the electrical equipment and engineering industry. The company is mainly engaged in the manufacture, distribution and sale of electrical and electronic equipment systems.
CROGREAVES makes a wide range of transformers, switchgear, motors, lighting products, fans, railway-signaling equipment, and undertakes turnkey engineering projects. Business operations are organized under four strategic business units; power systems, industrial systems, consumer products and digital (telecom & networking). Its manufacturing base covers 22 locations across five states (Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh) in India. It has a total installed capacity of 1,95,00,000 KVA, 23800 NOS, 321850 NOS, 4348570 HP and 15000 for MT transformers, reactors and accessories, switchgear control equipment and accessories, motors and electric steel stamping and laminates respectively.
The company is the first in India to develop 110 to 160 kVA aluminum body alternators. CROGREAV designs and manufactures the widest range of power and distribution transformers and reactors from 160 kVA to 415 kVA. The stampings division, transformers business and fan business are market leaders with 23%, 18% and 21% market share respectively. Moreover, 31 divisions of the company are accredited with ISO 9001 certification and three with ISO 14001 certification. CGL has six subsidiaries and 15 JVs, mostly in related businesses. It exports its products to 60 countries worldwide.
During May 2005, the company completed the acquisition of the Belgium-based Pauwels Group, which is having its manufacturing facilities in Belgium, Ireland, Canada, USA and Indonesia. The acquisition catapults the company among the top ten transformer manufacturers in the world.
