Axis bank–D&B Business Gaurav Award (SME) - Auto Segment

D&B and Axis bank have been in the lead in honoring the companies which are doing exceedingly well for themselves and in this series we had written a write-up on Axis bank and D&B Business Gaurav award for which we were also invited to be a part of the invitees.

The results are out with Autolite stealing the limelight in the Axis bank–D&B Business Gaurav Award (SME) - Auto Segment category. A brief about the company is as appended below:

Autolite (India) Ltd. was incorporated in 1970 to manufacture lighting products for automotive and industrial use. Driven by the credo of 'Service to society, humanity and nation', Autolite has translated its vision into equity not just in India, but also in the US, Canada, Latin America, Western Europe, South Africa and the Far East.

The initial success of its brand 'Autopal' encouraged the Company to explore OEM and export markets. Success has been a function of strategic thinking, decisive implementation, ongoing internal training and constant realignment to changing market dynamics. Providing innovative products with international quality at an economical price has been the Company's overarching mission. These pioneering efforts are reflected in the 65 registered patents it has.

At a time when headlights and halogen lamps were imported, import substitution became the objective of the company. Going ahead, warehouses and facilities were set up closer to customer production bases in India and abroad, to serve customers just-in-time thereby optimizing operations.

On its' road to success the Company had to overcome  challenges ranging from lack of infrastructure, know-how and quality sourcing, to import dependence for raw material, and stringent government policies. The greatest challenge was to compete against global giants.  Autolite set up facilities for R&D, dyes & moulds, and machine building. The in-house infrastructure led to lower capital investment and savings from royalty payments.

At र 200 crores of group level turnover today, Autolite's reputation of world-class quality manufacturer is further validated by certifications such as ISO 9001, TS 16949, OSHAS 18001, E-Mark (Europe), DOT (US) and ARAI (India). Recognized as a Star Export House by the GoI, it has won over 45 awards, including Best Medium Enterprise at the D&B-Axis Bank Business Gaurav SME Awards 2011.
