VST Industries (VST) is engaged in the manufacturing and marketing of cigarettes. Incorporated in 1930, it is an affiliate of British American Tobacco (BAT), UK, which holds a 32.16% stake in the company. The company focuses on manufacturing and marketing cigarettes with interests in investments and mutual funds. The major brands of the company include Charminar, Charminar Special Filter, Charms Mini Kings and Charms Virginia Filter, XL Filter and Shaan. Its products are targeted at the lower end of the market and have dominance in the small-sized (less than 60 mm) micro segment. The company gets tobacco from ITC and has encouraged its farmers to grow tobacco with the lowest pesticide residue levels within international standards. It is actively promoting vermi compost units for organic farming among tobacco farmers. The manufacturing facility is located at Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. New design machineries in the primary manufacturing and secondary manufacturing departments have been installed for better output and reduction of wastage. Recent awards include the Gold Award for the year 2006 given by the Royal Society for Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), UK for maintaining highest standards in Occupational Health and Safety. Though the major chunk of revenue comes from sale of cigarettes, it is also in the business of selling non-manufactured and cut tobacco. The company entered into long-term tie-ups with potential customers for oriental tobacco development and marketing, which has now attained commercial production levels and established a market with premium customers for air cured Burley exports. It retains a premier status in sun/air/fire cured tobaccos. With effect from April 1, 2006, Hallmark Tobacco Company, the wholly-owned subsidiary of VST Industries amalgamated with another wholly-owned subsidiary, VST Distribution, Storage & Leasing Company.
