Incorporated in 1981, Oswal Chemicals & Fertilisers Ltd (OCFL) belongs to the Oswal Agro Group of companies promoted by Abhay Oswal. OCFL (formerly known as Bindal Agro Chem Ltd) was initially started as a trading company and entered into the manufacture of refined vegetable oil through acquisitions. The company acquired the LDPE division of ICI, which was later shut down as operations became uneconomical. In a major diversification, OCFL in FY96 commissioned a Rs 1368-mn gas-based urea plant at Shajahanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
