KEC International (KECIL), incorporated on Mar. 18, 2005, is engaged worldwide in power transmission engineering, procurement, and construction.
Entering into a scheme of arrangement effective Dec. 26, 2005, the company was vested with the power transmission business of KEC Enterprises and got its current name on Jan. 09, 2006.
It is part of the RPG group, which has business interests in transmission, power, tires, retail, entertainment and technology. CESC, Noida Power Company, CEAT, CEAT Kelani, Philips Carbon Black, Harrison Malayalam, Spencer`s Hypermarket, Music World, Spencers, Saregama, HamaraCD, Zensar, RPG Life Sciences, and Raychem RPG are other group companies. The company is engaged in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) business across the segments of power transmission, distribution, substation, telecom and railways. Spread over 25 countries and having established itself in over 40 countries, it provides end-to-end solutions in transmission, distribution and sub-station projects, railway electrification projects, optical fiber cable installations, telecom infrastructure services.
It has gained expertise and offers designing and engineering, tower testing, satellite and general packet radio service (GPRS) surveys and hotline stringing services. In 2007, turnkey power transmission projects were bagged from Afghanistan`s Ministry of Energy & Water; Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam; and from Karnataka Power Transmission Company. Power transmission contracts were won from the Saudi Electricity company, Abu Dhabi Transmission and Despatch Company, and from Kazakhstan. A 50:50 joint venture called KEC Power was formed with US-based Power Engineers to tap opportunities in the US transmission sector.
As on March 31, 2008, the company had a healthy order book of about Rs 42,000 million. During the year, it bagged 26 orders in the South Asian markets from state utilities and Power Grid Corporation of India and 27 orders in international markets from Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Algeria, Kenya, Oman, Namibia, Nigeria, UAE, and Saudi Arabia among other countries. Executing railway electrification projects, it has begun participating in railway composite projects and has successfully embarked upon the sub-station business in India and abroad. As on Nov 2011KEC International (KEC) has secured new orders worth Rs 400 crore from Saudi Arabia and India for supply and construction of transmission lines on a turnkey basis. The Saudi Arabia order worth Rs 306 crore is for 380 kV double circuit overhead transmission lines from Saudi Electricity Company ( SEC) and the total route length of the line is 169 kms. This order was secured through the company's joint venture with Al-Sharif Group, Saudi Arabia and the contract completion period is 24 months.
