Walchand Hirachand established Indian Hume Pipe (IHP) in 1926. Today IHP has a well spread out and wide network of over twenty factories and forty projects in India. Products of the company includes pre-stressed concrete pipe, pre-stressed concrete cylinder pipe, bar wrapped steel cylinder pipe, steel pipe, RCC pipe and penstocks, RCC lamp posts and latrine manholes. It has executed turnkey pipeline projects in infrastructure sectors like water supply, irrigation, drainage, power generation and rail transport. While the company sold its stake in its Colombo subsidiary, it took over National Rifles under a scheme of amalgamation. The company has introduced for the first time Bar Wrapped Steel Cylinder pipes which is considered to be the most economical pipeline material for gravity or pumping in water supply schemes, and is also successfully used for circulation water system. It has also executed projects in Sri Lanka, Burma and Iraq. IHP is headquartered at Mumbai.
