Adidas to launch $1 shoe in India – Success or Failure – Time will tell
German sportswear and equipment maker Adidas boss Herbert Hainer wants to test the water by selling $1 shoes in the rural areas in India. His similar project has suffered a setback in Bangladesh where his operating cost per shoe was $6.50 i.e. $3 as original cost and $3.5 as import duty. He said and we quote
“The shoe will be sold in villages through a distribution network,” Hainer said, adding, “We want the product to be self-funding.”
Now it needs to be seen that whether $1 shoe can be launched successfully in India or not. We are only worried that in doing this venture the boss may not harm the overall image of Adidas.
