Visaka Industries (VISAKA) is a diversified company with capabilities in fiber cement sheets and yarn. It was incorporated as Visaka Asbestos Cement Products on Jun. 18, 1981 and got its present name on Aug. 9, 1990. The company produces fiber cement sheets and accessories at its manufacturing units in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. With the new Raebareli (Uttar Pradesh) and Vijayawada (Karnataka) plants going on stream, the production capacity of the company is currently over 600,000 TPA. The planned capacity would go up further when the Ahmedabad plant is commissioned in 2008. The manufacture of aerocon sandwiched panels and aerated autoclaved concrete blocks will be combined with the current reinforced building board unit of the company set up at Miryalguda in Andhra Pradesh. The ISO 9001:2000 certified company manufactures yarn out of blends of polyester, viscose and specialty yarns used in the manufacture of a wide range of fabrics including shirtings, suitings, fashion fabrics, embroidery laces, and upholstery. The company produces about 7,000 MTPA of yarn with its installed capacity of 1,816 spinning positions at its plant in Moudha, Maharashtra. The shareholders have given their nod to wind up the garment division and sell the assets. Yarn is exported to various countries including Italy, Belgium, United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, Australia, Mexico, Turkey, Japan, and Thailand.
