Universal Cables (UNICABLE), part of the M.P. Birla group, is primarily engaged in manufacturing electrical cables and capacitors. It was incorporated on March 6, 1945. The ISO 9001 company manufactures a wide range of cables including PILC cables upto 33 KV, XLPE cables up to 145 KV, high temp. fluoro-plastic cables, winding wires and flat cables, and PVC cables upto 11 KV; PP capacitors with non-PCB, non-toxic oil impregnation including high tension power capacitors upto 220 KV, low tension power capacitors, furnace capacitors, DC capacitors, and technical services including turnkey projects from design to installation/commissioning of cable systems and capacitor banks. The manufacturing plant is located in Satna, Madhya Pradesh. The R&D facilities of the company have accreditation by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India. The joint venture companies include Birla Ericsson, producing fiber optic cables and Universal ABB Power Cables, the only company having a vertical CV line in the country, in joint venture with the renowned power equipment company Asea Brown Boveri (ABB). The company products are marketed under the UNISTAR brand name in domestic and export markets through a marketing network of branches spread all over the country and agencies abroad.
