Tata Investment Corporation (TATAINVEST), part by the Tata group, is a non-banking investment company. It was incorporated in 1937. The company is registered with the Reserve Bank under the Investment Company category. Its activities comprise primarily of long-term investments in shares, debentures and other securities. The main sources of income consist of dividend income and profit from sale of investments. Tata Investment Corporation has promoted the Tata Mutual Fund along with Tata Sons. It is also the principal shareholder of Tata Securities, which is engaged in the distribution of mutual funds and other investment-related securities. TICL had been rated by CRISIL since 1994 and has been assigned their highest rating of FAAA till date, representing highest safety in payment of interest and principal amount. The company has huge equity investment in listed and unlisted entities. Its investment portfolio also comprises of sizeable exposure in government securities and bonds. It has investments in preference shares of unlisted group entities like Tata Auto Components, a major auto components supplier in India, and Tata Sons.
