Rallis India, a member of Tata Group, is engaged in the business of manufacturing and trading of pesticides, fertilisers and fine chemicals. Its business includes agrochemicals, institutional business, international business and contract manufacturing. The company provides technical and bulk of various molecules to companies like Bayer, Syngenta and Gharda. The Agrochemical division handles distribution of pesticides, fertilisers, micro-nutrients, seeds, animal feed and other agro inputs. It covers over 80 per cent of the districts in the country.
The company has commenced production of a range of ethylene oxide condensates based surfactants, which found captive use in its agrochemical formulations during 1999-2000. During 2000-2001, the company established seed processing facilities at Dhar (MP) and Patancheru, near Hyderabad with an annual capacity of 4,000 tons per annum each and a research infrastructure, quality control and storage facility at Patancheru. The Rallis Agro Research Centre, Bangalore is dedicated to toxicology and entomology research. The company discontinued marketing of Monsanto seeds during the year 2001-02. The company is now looking at national and international marketing alliances, including possible tie-ups in the area of bio-technology. The company`s initiative towards new product development (NPD) has identified several new products to be developed and introduced in the next 5 to 8 years. A new plant nutrient product suitable for blending with NK/ NPK fertilisers is being investigated with collaborative business associate through ICAR. Several products are at various stages of development and improvement plans for existing products are also underway.
