Nava Bharat Ferro Alloys operates in segments like ferro alloys, power and sugar. It began business in 1975 with the manufacture of ferro silicon in a single furnace at Paloncha in Khammam district, Andhra Pradesh. The ferro alloy division produces bulk ferro alloys like ferro chrome, silico manganese and ferro manganese used as inputs in iron and steel making. The power division supplies power to the company`s manufacturing plants as well as to the local utility. The sugar division produces crystal sugar, extra neutral alcohol and power through co-generation. Recognizing the need to create an international trading hub, the company established NBFA, PTE as a subsidiary in Singapore. The company is actively pursuing cane development to raise crushing capacity to 4000 TCD over the ensuing two seasons. It has embarked on a major expansion programme involving an investment of over Rs 3,500 million during the next two years. The company plans to set up an integrated sugar, bio-fuel project and a co-generation facility and a greenfield power project and expand into infrastructure through the special purpose vehicle (SPV) route. It also intends to set up a coal-based greenfield power plant in Orissa with a 60 MW capacity at an investment of around Rs 1900 million. It has bid for the metro rail project in Hyderabad and a national highway project in Madhya Pradesh.
