Kingfisher Airlines (KFA) is a Bengaluru-based airlines. It was incorporated as a private limited company on Jun. 15, 1995 and converted into a public limited company on Mar. 14, 2005. Earlier known as Deccan Aviation, it got its present name with effect from Oct. 06, 2008. The company is part of Dr. Vijay Mallya`s UB group, which has diverse business interests in brewing, distilling, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, fertilizers, engineering, international trading, infrastructure, and media besides aviation. United Spirits, Mangalore Chemicals & Fertilizers, UB Global, Vittal Mallya Scientific Research Foundation, and United Breweries (Holdings) are other group companies. Meeting global standards, the company has a fleet consisting of 85 aircrafts. Effective April 2008, the company merged with the erstwhile Deccan Aviation, a Bangalore-based company inheriting its helicopter and airplane chartering services with a fleet of nine helicopters and three fixed-wing aircraft deployed across its bases at Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Bhubaneshwar, Hyderabad, Surat, Katra in Jammu and Kashmir and Sri Lanka. An alliance was formed with Jet Airways to rationalize operations and derive maximum synergies. The alliance will include code sharing on both domestic and international flights, joint fuel management to reduce expenses, common ground handling, joint utilization of crew and sharing of similar frequent flier programs. The company has tied up with ICICI Lombard General Insurance to provide insurance cover for passengers and with Disney Publishing, a global publisher of children`s magazines and books, to provide specially-designed in-flight entertainment to children.
