Jet Airways India (JETAIRWAYS) was established in 1992 as a private company starting out with a fleet of four leased aircrafts. Today, it has a modern fleet of 50 aircrafts and an employee base of over 7,000 workers. It became a public company in December 2004 and its IPO in March 2005 was over subscribed 16 times. In April 2007, the company acquired Sahara Airlines. With the acquisition of Sahara Airlines, it has become the largest private airline operator in the country with a market share of almost 50%. The company has 55 aircraft, comprising Boeing 737s, eight ATR-72 500s, three Airbus 340-300Es and one Airbus 330-200. Jet Airways`s fleet connect over 43 destinations in India and five destinations abroad, viz. Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo, Kathmandu and London. It is currently operating more than 1,900 flights a week. The company also intends to start a freighter service shortly in order to tap the potential market for cargo operations.
