Elder Pharmaceuticals (EPL) was set up in 1987. The company is mainly into manufacture of bulk drugs and formulations. Elder has manufacturing facilities in Nerul, Pawane and Patalganga (all in the state of Maharashtra). Formulations and bulk drugs contribute almost 75% to the company`s revenues. In the year 1991, the company achieved R&D recognition from the Government of India.The mission of the company is to occupy a prominent place in national and international health care arena with focus on research and global collaborations. The group has three companies namely Elder Pharmaceutical, Elder HealthCare (EHC) and Elder Projects. The main therapeutic areas of interest for the company are osteoporosis and wound-care. The company has also positioned itself in the emerging markets of cardiology, respiratory disorders and cerebral diseases. Other areas of activity are dermatology, nutritional products and antioxidants. Bulk drugs manufactured like ampicillin trihydrate, amoxycillin trihydrate and cloxacillin sodium (oral) are mainly used for captive consumption in its own healthcare set up, surplus if any being sold in the domestic market or exported. EPL entered into alliances with foreign companies for manufacture and sale of their products under license from them. Besides, EPL has also introduced some of its own brands like Shelcal, Eldervit-12 INJ, Chymoral Forte, Amifru and I-VIT. It also has a presence in the OTC segment and sells the Tiger range of products from Singapore, SOLO Eucamenth tablets, AMPM mouthwash and toothbrushes. The company has tie up with Haw Par, Fugisawa and Paul Hartmann. The exports of company commenced in 1991 when it received its first order from Russia for Colloidal Bismuth Subcitrate (Denol) tablets. The company received the ``Certificate of Merit`` from the ministry of commerce, government of India for outstanding export performance during the period 1992-93. It enjoys an export house status since 1994 with shipment being made to African and South Asian countries. The company has diversified into sale of medical equipment. Export markets include Switzerland, Germany, England, Denmark and a few African countries.
