EIH (EIH) was incorporated in 1949 and got its current name on Nov. 01, 1996. It is a part of the Oberoi group and its principal activity is to operate hotels, restaurants and bars. EIH`s subsidiaries and group services include airline catering, management of restaurants and airport bars, travel and tour services, car rentals, project management and corporate air charters. Subsidiaries include Oberoi Kerala Hotels and Resorts, Mumtaz Hotels, Mercury Travels, EIH International. and Rajgarh Palace Hotel and Resorts. In 2004, EIH and Hilton International Co. (Hilton International) entered into a strategic alliance for co-branding hotels in India under the Trident Hilton brand. This alliance covered nine hotels with approximately 1,900 rooms across India. The Oberoi Towers in Mumbai was re-branded as Hilton Towers. The existing Trident hotels in Agra, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Cochin, Jaipur, Udaipur and Gurgaon were re-branded as Trident Hilton. New Oberoi brand luxury hotels are to come up in Bangalore, Goa, Gurgaon, Sicm Reap (Angkor Vat, Cambodia), the Maldives islands and Dubai; a luxury Nile cruiser in Egypt; Rajgarh Palace in Madhya Pradesh converted into a luxury hotel on a 60-acre site with a private lake; a new 250-key Trident Hilton Hotel and 50 service apartments at Hitech City, Hyderabad; and the prestigious 437-key Trident Hilton Hotel at Bandra-Kurla expected to open in 2008.
