Taj GVK Hotels and Resorts (TAJGVK) was formed as a strategic business alliance between Indian Hotels Company (25.52% stake) and the GVK group (35% stake) in 1999. It is a joint venture of the Taj and GVK groups, who offers a chain of hotels at par with International standards. Taj GVK Hotels and Resorts operate Taj Krishna, Taj Banjara, Taj Deccan in Hyderabad and Taj Chandigarh in Chandigarh. The 260-room Taj Krishna is the flagship hotel of the company and has been declared as a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. The Banjara has 118 rooms including eight suites. The company is investing Rs 200 million to upgrade the Taj Deccan to a Super Deluxe Luxury Category and increase room capacity from the existing 151 rooms including 10 suites by another 180 rooms.
Located in Chandigarh, the Taj Chandigarh has 149 guest rooms including superior rooms, deluxe rooms, luxury rooms, and a suite. With a planned investment of Rs 4.5 billion on new projects, TAJGVK will build the Taj-Mount Road, a five-star deluxe hotel with 220 rooms at a cost of Rs 1.25 billion in Chennai and is scheduled to be inaugurated by December 2007. Taj-Begumpet, a business hotel with 189 rooms, will be set up in Hyderabad at an estimated cost of Rs 700 million. Two five star hotels are proposed to be set up in Mumbai, one near the international airport and the other near the domestic terminal.
