Madhucon Projects (MADHUPRO) undertakes infrastructure projects including expressways and national highways, irrigation and water supply, sewage treatment, engineering and property development. Established in 1983, the company was converted into a private limited company in 1990, and went public in 1995. It is the flagship company of the Madhucon group, which has interests in construction, granite, coal, power and sugar. The ISO 9001: 2000 certified company has expertise in seven operating divisions - namely build, operate and transfer projects; highways and airports; irrigation; hydel power; property development; water resources; and overseas projects. Its irrigation and power projects include the main canal and structures of Sri Ram Sagar right branch canal. Its industrial projects include the coal handling plant, Coal India, whereas tunneling projects include the Amba tunnel and Ahirkheda tunnel. It is a leader in construction of highways and expressways and has built nearly 500 km of highways in the golden quadrilateral road network of India connecting Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta and Chennai. Huge volumes of work have been executed thus far including 75 million cubic meters earthwork, 6 million cubic meters rock excavation, 5 million cubic meters reinforced cement concrete, 1 million cubic meters plain cement concrete and 0.2 million MT reinforcement. State-of-the-art machinery and equipment worth over Rs 2 billion have been procured, mostly from abroad. The company entered into the power sector with 48% equity participation in Simhapuri Energy for a 540 MW power project. It also got into coal mining in Indonesia and incorporated a wholly-owned Indonesian company PT Madhucon. Awards include outstanding performance and super quality construction award by Konkan Railways in 1994. Recent contracts bagged secured include the Rs 812 million road improvement work for Pimpri-Chinchwad Navnagar Development Authority, Pune. National Highways Authority of India; highway development, R&D, irrigation and CAD departments of state governments; Konkan Railway Corporation; Indian Railway Construction Company; and Indian Oil Corporation are among the many clients.
