Do's
(a) One should use a Pass Phrase or a hard to guess password and remember to keep it private.
(b) One must change password every fortnightly.
(c) Do remember to click on 'No' when computer prompts you to save the password.
(d) Use a combination of letters, alphabets and special characters(characters which one use by pressing Shift Key like !@#$%^&*).
Don'ts
(a) One should not reuse the previous password.
(b) Do not tell or share your password.
(c) Do not write your password anywhere especially with in the cover of the ATM card or on small pieces of paper taped to the computer which is like leaving a house locked but key is attached to the lock itself.
(d) Do not use same password everywhere like using same password for Power on, Login, screen saver etc.
(e) Do not make password with your birthdate, car number, phone number, child, wife name or anything which is remotely associated.
(f) Never use a word found in dictionary whether in English or a foreign language as cracking software for password can decode the same.
(g) Do not let any body view your password over the shoulders as generally happen in ATMs.
(h) Do not reply to any unsolicited emails wanting your passwords.
(i) All the more important do not open an email which you do not expect in email as at times such unsolicited emails have malicious code attached to file which gets executed on opening the email.
(J) Protect yourself against fraudulent websites by opening a new web browser (e.g. Internet Explorer or Netscape) and typing in the URL yourself every time one log in to the account.
(k) Do not use public computers or cyber cafe for opening of your password enabled accounts as they may have key logger software installed. Last but not least use virtual keyboard as availabe in banking sites for typing the password.
Note:
All banking and money transaction sites have secured data transmission, so look for word HTTPS in the URL. This character 'S' in HTTPS indicates that it is a secured site. Last but not least look for a padlock sign which indicates it is a secured site. Type the URL of financial websites yourself to avoid landing at phishing site.
