1. The Asian markets saw deep cuts and European markets were also reeling.

5. The CNX Midcaps Index and BSE Smallcaps Index were both down nearly 1.5%.
6. The market breadth was negative with advances at 177 against declines of 1050 on the NSE.
7. Top Nifty gainers included SAIL, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, TCS and Cipla while losers included HDFC Bank, Sterlite, Unitech, Reliance Communications, Tata Power and NTPC.
