2. Stock Market day diary:It was a flat closing for the market today on the first day of the new year with some choppiness in the last hour of trade. Sensex closed at 20300, up 13 points and Nifty at 6144, up 5 points from the previous close. The CNX Midcaps Index was up 1.4% and BSE Smallcaps Index was up 2.6%. The market breadth was positive with advances at 965 against declines of 254 on the NSE. Top Sensex gainers included ITC, HUL, Grasim and NTPC while losers included Bharti Airtel, Wipro, TCS and Infosys.
