1. The Asian markets gave up early gains to end weak.
2. The European markets were trading soft.
3. The Indian market had a bad day with heavy selling pressure following the opening of the Reliance Power IPO today.
4. Sensex closed at 20251, down 476 points and Nifty at 6074, down 132 points from the previous close.
5. The CNX Midcaps Index and BSE Smallcaps Index both closed down nearly 1% and all sectoral indices closed in the negative.
6.The BSE Bankex Index, BSE IT Index, BSE FMCG Index, BSE Oil&Gas Index and BSE PSU Index all closed down nearly 2%.
7.The BSE Power Index was down 3%.
8.The market breadth was negative with advances at 392 against declines of 824 on the NSE.
9.Top Nifty gainers included Tata Steel, VSNL, Tata Power and Maruti Suzuki while losers included BPCL, NTPC, Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank.
